ENVIRONMENTAL LITERACY NETWORKING PROJECT
“There are no passengers on Spaceship Earth. We are all crew.”
Marshall Mcluhan, 1964
Global and local environmental issues, such as climate change, air and water pollution, excessive consumption of natural resources, and loss biodiversity, threaten the sustainability of our planet, the quality of life of all living beings, and the access of future generations to natural resources.
The future of our planet and the continuation of our existence rely on the growing number of “global literate” individuals who are able to critically weight nature and human relations, develop solutions for these issues, do research, and display responsible behavior and understanding within this framework.
As Yuva Association and within the scope of the “Environmental Literacy Networking Project” funded by the European Union and implemented in partnership with Kyoto Club, we established the Global Literacy Network (KOZA), together with more than 40 organizations (civil society organizations, civil initiatives and local authorities) in Turkey (primarily from Ankara, Balikesir, Canakkale, Gaziantep, Hatay, Istanbul, Izmir and Mersin) and in the EU (primarily from Italy and Belgium).
Because we believe that change will happen when all actors who have common concerns about the sustainability of our planet act together.
GLOBAL LITERACY NETWORK (KOZA)
“Today’s world will require leaders and citizens who think ecologically, understand natural systems and have the will, skill and courage to act together.” Environmental Sciences Professor David Orr, 1992
With the Global Literacy Network (KOZA), as civil society organizations who work in the field of environmental education or can contribute to the content of environmental trainings, we aim to join our forces, improve our educational and organizational capacity, organize environmental trainings for young adults and children, and conduct advocacy work.
WHO CAN JOIN?
All associations, foundations, civil society networks and platforms, professional associations and city councils which organize trainings and awareness raising activities in the field of environment and climate change or can contribute to the content of these trainings, support the overall aim of KOZA, and operate in Ankara, Balikesir, Canakkale, Gaziantep, Hatay, Istanbul, Izmir and Mersin can join KOZA.
The overall aim of establishing KOZA is to strengthen cooperation in the field of environmental education by creating a network of civil society organizations from Turkey and the European Union and thus contributing to the increasing of “global literate” individuals who can critically approach to the nature and human relationships, develop ideas for the solution of the related problems, do research and display responsible behavior and understanding.
