Within the scope of the Environmental Literacy Networking Project initiated by Yuva Association and Kyoto Club in 2020 and supported by the European Union, an important step was taken in environmental sustainability education. As a product of the project, the “Environmental Sustainability Education Advocacy and Policy Paper,” developed and published together with members of the Environmental Literacy Network (ELN), was created to raise environmental awareness and support educational efforts.
In today’s world, environmental sustainability education plays an important role in addressing the serious ecological challenges threatening our planet. As we face issues such as the impacts of the climate crisis, biodiversity loss and environmental degradation, it becomes clear how critical it is to equip individuals with the knowledge, skills and values to support sustainable practices.
It is hoped that this document will serve as an important reference in the field of environmental sustainability education advocacy. It also includes recommendations for national policy makers and local governments in Türkiye to promote and support environmental sustainability education.
As Yuva Association, we are committed to spreading awareness of environmental responsibility. We are working towards a greener and more sustainable world by promoting cooperation between individuals, communities and institutions. Increasing collaboration between public institutions, local governments and civil society organizations will make environmental sustainability education policies and programs more effective and inclusive. Therefore, we underline the recognition of civil society organizations as important stakeholders in the development of environmental sustainability education in Türkiye.
