The Izmir Citizens’ Assembly for Climate, the first of its kind in Turkey, completed its work with its 5th and final session on November 2, 2025. Over the course of five sessions, 50 randomly selected citizens of Izmir developed a total of 30 solution proposals under the headings of Nature-Based Solutions, Water Management, and Health.

In the final session, these proposals were revisited; all proposals were organized and scored. This resulted in the creation of the “30 Priority Climate Actions for Izmir”. In this process, where criticism was freely expressed and all discussions were conducted anonymously, council members contributed directly to decisions about the city’s future by also sharing their experiences.

Climate policies emerging from Parliament will be evaluated in the coming period in collaboration with the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and relevant stakeholders, and will be incorporated into Izmir’s future climate plans to shape the city’s future.

We would like to thank all the council members, facilitators, experts, and supporting institutions who contributed to this process.
