Yuva Association’s Annual Report 2022 has been published!

The ‘Environmental Literacy Networking Project,’ which we carried out in partnership with Kyoto Club (Italy) supported by the European Union, continued in 2022. Both online and face-to-face activities were carried out within the project’s scope. Starting on 1 January 2020, Environmental Literacy Network (ELN) was established within the project, bringing together non-governmental organizations and local administrations that operate in environmental education or can contribute to educational content. In this context, we are proud to say that the number of member organizations, which was 54 in 2021, reached 63 by the end of 2022 – 59 from Turkey and four from Europe.

In 2022, Yuva Association became a part of the SMALEI (Sustainability Matrix for Adult Education Institutions) project, which is carried out with leading European institutions in adult education. The SMALEI project aims to improve the environmental sustainability of adult learning and education providers and organizations across Europe and increase their capacity to contribute to societal developments. Another aim of the project is to raise awareness about environmental and climate change issues and to enable adult education organizations to take concrete steps towards sustainable development.

The International Learning Mobility in Times of Climate Change (LEMOCC) project, of which we are a part as an association, was implemented in 2021 and 2022 with partners from the fields of international youth work and environmental education, as well as some public institutions in Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Turkey, and the United Kingdom; coordinated by IJAB, the International Youth Service of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The Diversity Training was implemented in two phases in Izmir and Cologne, targeting youth workers from Germany and Turkey, to recognise forms of discrimination and racism and to carry out actions with ‘diversity awareness.’

With the support we received from the Support Foundation for Civil Society, Forest Fires Emergency Support Fund, we have tried to contribute to both the reduction of Turkey’s greenhouse gas emissions and adaptation to the effects of climate change by raising public awareness about natural disasters caused by climate change and the measures and methods of combating these disasters and by ensuring the adoption of environmentally friendly habits through the online Climate and Nature Literacy trainings we organised.

In addition, the SINC Project, which started in 2021, continued in 2022. The project aimed to increase the impact of social inclusion interventions through exchanging information between NGOs in Turkey and Sweden, focusing on social inclusion activities implemented in multicultural areas in cooperation with local governments, namely municipalities.

The Education Support Programme, which YUVA has been developing since 2018 for children in need between the ages of 6-18 to continue their education, continued in 2022. The program provides cash support to meet the needs of children who have been affected by various disasters and have economic difficulties and considers school attendance as a prerequisite.

With the support of the Malala Foundation, the Capacity Building for Teachers and Support to Education Programme, implemented in partnership with Yuva Association and Hacettepe University, aimed to increase Syrian children’s schooling and attendance rates. With a 3.5-year projection, the program was implemented in 6 different primary schools in Ankara. In addition to this, the program was also open to classroom teachers in Istanbul. In 3.5 years, 225 teachers were served, and 903 students directly benefited from the program.

With the ‘Digital Literacy in Education Project’, which aims to transfer the technological requirements of the age to teachers working in formal and non-formal education, which we carried out in cooperation with Thales Solidarity, we provided digital literacy training to teachers in 2022.

In addition, our campaign ‘Future without Coal‘, which aims to close coal-fired thermal power plants in Turkey, continued at full speed and helped the environmental movement to be heard and increase its visibility.
