Ecology and Ecosystem Training was held in Mersin, under the cooperation of YUVA, Toroslar Municipality and TURMEPA (Turkish Marine Environment Protection Association) as a part of CASH for WORK Project. The training in which the employees of the municipality and Syrian and local beneficiaries of the CASH for WORK Project participated was hosted by the Yunus Emre Cultural Centre.

TURMEPA’s voluntary trainer Berivan Güngör, addressed subjects about the context of ecosystem, developing an understanding towards ecosystem and what sorts of possible solutions can be built for the current threats we face. Within the scope of training where video screening and Q&As took place, participants have been briefed about their environmental habitat and informed about Mersin and its environmental surroundings through the exemplification of Ergene Tributary in Marmara Region. While information on the importance of use, capacity and sustainability of sources was provided, our share’s potential roles for ecosystem have been pointed out in the training. The training continued on the basis of damage we bring to nature though concrete instances as awareness was created on the responsibilities we can establish in our daily life such as reducing the plastic bag use, separating the wastes as paper-plastic-glass and disposing them in the recycling dumpsters and areas, abstaining from pouring waste oils to the mains but delivering them to the municipality to be collected and cutting down the consumption of meat due to the imbalances it causes to the ecosystem.
